ROCHESTER — The Southwestern Central sailing team kicked off the spring season in Rochester on Saturday in the Ice Breaker Regatta.

Weather was cold with persistent rains and moderate winds between 13-15 knots. Despite the need for drysuits and the foul weather, spirits were high to be back on the water and running races.

The team’s most dedicated area sailors came together to make six teams and finish seven races for the event. Composing the Southwestern Central Team was Jack Colburn and Gabe Logan.

The team showed off some great starts, strong hiking, and consistent form to earn second place overall, with four second place finishes and no finish under fourth.

Irondequoit took first with 7 points, Southwestern Central placed second with 18 points and Lewiston-Porter earned third with 24 points.

“This was not an event for fair-weather sailors,” Southwestern head coach Hunter Farris stated. “Just the most extreme sailors showed up today. It’s great to be back on the water, and see everyone after the long winter break.”

The next regatta will be April 6 at home in Lakewood on Chautauqua Lake.

Starting at $2.99/week.
