SYRACUSE — Jaydian Johnson has placed himself among the best basketball players in Jamestown High School history.
The numbers he put up during his career certainly confirm why.
Now, the New York State Sportswriters Association has taken notice, because it has selected the 6-foot-1 senior guard to its Class AAA fourth team in an online announcement made Monday.
Johnson, who led the Red & Green to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four for the second straight season, averaged 23 points, 4.8 assists and 2.2 steals per game. For his career, Johnson is fourth all-time in points (1,320); is sixth in both assists (299) and in 3-point field goals (152); and is tied for ninth in steals (145).
A first-team Post-Journal/OBSERVER All-Star, Johnson was also named the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 and All-ECIC Player of the Year.

Two other Jamestown standouts — juniors Elijah Farmer and Dominic Gonzalez — have been recognized by the NYSSWA as well.
Farmer, a 6-foot-5 forward, is a ninth-team selection after averaging 15.4 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. He was also a Post-Journal/OBSERVER second-team choice, and an ECIC Division 1 first-team choice and a second-team All-ECIC selection.
Gonzalez, meanwhile, is an NYSSWA honorable mention. The 6-0 guard averaged 16.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 steals, earning ECIC Division 1 first-team honors and All-ECIC second-team recognition. He was also a Post-Journal/OBSERVER first-team choice.
The other Western New York player to earn all-state recognition in Class AAA is junior John Strong of Niagara Falls, who was named to the sixth team. Also of note, joining Johnson on the fourth team is 6-foot-4 junior Jalen Taggart of Section V Rush-Henrietta, which Jamestown defeated in the Far West Regional last month.
The NYSSWA Player of the Year in Class AAA is Thomas Jefferson junior Jahda Swann, the first underclassman in six years to earn POY honors in the large-school classification.

Dominic Gonzalez received honorable mention as the NYSSWA announced its Class AAA all-state teams Monday.
The 6-6 standout led his team to the PSAL CLass AAAA championship and the No. 2 spot in the final NYSSWA rankings.
