Swanson Sets Program-Record, Career-High 47 In Westfield Win

WESTFIELD — Carson Swanson put on a show in his final game inside the Westfield Academy & Central School gym.
In fact, the Wolverines senior guard did something he’s never done before.
Swanson scored a career-high and program-record 47 points Saturday afternoon as No. 4 Westfield topped No. 12 Brocton 89-51 in a Section VI Class C boys basketball quarterfinal.
Not only did Swanson score nearly 50 points, including five dunks and four 3-pointers, he also grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out nine assists and grabbed eight steals while throwing in a blocked shot for good measure.
Zach Maguire chipped in 18 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, four steals and four blocked shots; Grant Beadle grabbed seven rebounds; and Brayden Paddock had three steals for the Wolverines.

Westfield led 25-10 after the first quarter and put the game away with a 29-12 third quarter.
Michael Garcia led the Bulldogs with 27 points.
Next up for Westfield is a semifinal date with No. 1 Randolph at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex on Tuesday at 6 p.m. In their only meeting this year, the Wolverines beat the Cardinals 43-39 in the Centercourt Classic at St. Joe’s Collegiate Institute.

AKRON — Limited to 17 points through three quarters, No. 9 Southwestern fell to No. 1 Akron 59-30 in a Section VI Class B1 game.
Darren Brooks paced a balanced scoring attack for the Tigers (20-1) with 15 points, while Braydon Lamont and Ben Gerstung added 12 and 10 points respectively.
The Trojans (9-13) were led by Chase Hartnett with 7 points, all in the first half.
Akron now advances to the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Alden at Buffalo State University.

HOLLAND ELIMINATES GOWANDA
HOLLAND – Brady Wiskup scored 11 points during a 26-15 third quarter as No. 2 Holland took control en route to a 69-56 Class C quarterfinal victory over No. 7 Gowanda.
Wiskup led the Dutchmen with 25 points, Carson Howlett added 18 and Jude Gerbec chipped in 13.
Trelin Warrior led the Panthers with 24 points, Logan Ruff scored 11 and Blake Herman chipped in 10.
The Dutchmen will take on No. 3 Franklinville in the 7:45 p.m. semifinal Tuesday at Jamestown Community College’s Physical Education Complex.

FRANKLINVILLE PULLS AWAY FROM EAGLES
FRANKLINVILLE – Matthew Spittler scored 21 points, while Bretton Blecha had 16 points, 14 rebounds and four steals as No. 3 Franklinville beat No. 6 Ellicottville 65-45 in a Class C quarterfinal.
Eli Shenk added 11 points; Isaac Towne had 8 points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals; and Collin Mooney had five assists and five steals for the Panthers, who led 33-27 at halftime.
Rylan Benjamin led the Eagles with 9 points, while Carter Smith and Dominic Polino had 8 points apiece.
