Salamanca Girls Advance To Class B FWR
BUFFALO — The Salamanca girls basketball team continued their storied season on Wednesday at the Buffalo State Sports Arena when they defeated Newfan 40-34 in the overall Section VI Class B championship.
The Warriors were sparked by an 18-point first quarter and then never looked back as they grinded out the game limiting the Panthers to just 6 points in the final period.
Makenzie Crouse paced the Warriors with a double-double as she scored 10 points, collected 11 rebounds and dealt five blocks. Kynleigh Wass also had 10 points and three blocks for Salamanca, Madisyn Lafferty collected 14 rebounds and Maliyah Foster had seven boards.
Newfane was led by Anna Chunco with 10 points.
Salamanca (18-6) returns to the Buffalo State Sports Arena on Saturday to play Section V’s Hornell in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B Far West Regional at 2 p.m. Hornell is currently the third-ranked team in the state with a 21-3 record and returns to the Far West Regional after losing to Southwestern last year 63-61.
