Pickett’s Led Jackals Take Down First-Place Sudbury

Hundreds of school-age children were in attendance for the Jamestown Jackals’ Basketball Super League game Thursday morning against the Sudbury Five.

They were treated to a show.

Tyshon Pickett scored 29 points on 11-of-15 shooting and Devante Jamison added 21 points off the bench as the Jackals beat first-place Sudbury 133-113.

The Five (16-6) led by as many as 15 late in the first quarter, but Jamestown (11-7) rallied to take a 58-54 lead at halftime.

Amir Williams made a layup for Sudbury to make it a 72-64 game with 8:07 left in the third quarter before an 8-0 Jackals run — capped by a Brent Price 3-pointer — made it 80-64 with 5:49 remaining.

An Evan Hinson layup with 3:21 left in the third quarter gave Jamestown its largest lead at 95-69.

The Five never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Tafari Beckford had 18 points and 14 rebounds; Hinson had 18 points and six rebounds; and Jamison had 11 assists for the Jackals.

Duane Notice led Sudbury with 24 points and 11 assists; Charlie Marquardt had 23 points and five rebounds; and Amir Williams had 22 points and six rebounds.

The teams will play a rematch Saturday at 7 p.m. in Sudbury.
