A group of Jamestown Skating Club skaters represented the club at the annual Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid from Jan. 30 through Feb. 2. It is the largest Olympic-style sporting event in the Northeast, complete with torch relay and opening ceremonies. This year a moment of silence was observed to pay respect to many of the U.S. figure skaters who lost their lives in the airplane tragedy on Flight 5342. Pictured, from left, are: Doreen Mook; Ella Dempsey; Gia Patti; Clarissa Hren; Annalisa Krug, with gold medal in Excel Intermediate Free Skate and Gold Patterned Dance; and Ian Montour with gold medals in Novice Free Skate and Pre Gold Patterned Dance. Absent are Elise Eklund; Nora Petcher, bronze in Intermediate Free Skate; Madelyn Petcher with silver in Excel Senior Women’s Free Skate; and coaches Alexis Darrow and Madelaine Liuzzo For more information visit jamestownskatingclubonice.com.
