Jamestown Beats Spartans 59-42

Jamestown’s girls pitched a first-quarter shutout and won their sixth straight game, 59-42 over Williamsville North in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 basketball Wednesday at McElrath Gymnasium.

Makena Pryce and Carley Daniels each had a 3-pointer during a 16-0 first quarter and the Red & Green were well on their way to a victory.

Payton Gibbs finished with 13 points; Pryce had 10 points and 14 rebounds; Nayani Reid had 10 points; Aiyanna Stam had 11 rebounds; and Daniels had seven steals and five assists for Jamestown (10-7, 3-5).

Nicolette Zachery led the Spartans (3-11, 1-7) with 15 points.

Jamestown will host its third game of the week when first-place Lancaster and Madison Francis visit McElrath Gymnasium. Francis, a Mississippi State University commit, threw down the first dunk of her career Tuesday and was featured on SportsCenter’s Top 10 on Wednesday.

SHERMAN CLINCHES DIVISION 2

ELLERY — Teagan Gratto posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as Sherman edged Maple Grove 50-35 to clinch the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 title outright.

Emmersen Crawford added another 14 points and four boards for the Wildcats (17-1, 13-0).

Maple Grove (13-4, 10-3) was led by Morgan Caldwell with 13 points, seven steals and five blocks and Bryanna Cornell collected 11 boards and made three blocks.

WEST ELLICOTT — Southwestern clinched the Division 1 title outright with a 72-42 win over Allegany-Limestone on Senior Night.

Ellie Pearson, one of the Trojans’ seniors, set a career-high with 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals. Bella Sirianni, the other senior, had 7 points, five assists and two rebounds.

“Our defense tonight was outstanding. We were able to convert turnovers into points and pull away in the second half,” Southwestern head coach Kay Sirianni said. “It was nice getting a win on Senior Night for our two seniors.”

Gianna Sirianni added 18 points, four steals, three assists and two blocked shots, while Marlana Cresanti had 8 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists for Southwestern (15-2, 9-0).

Mya Hayes led the Gators (7-10, 5-3) with 12 points.
