Dominic Gonzalez and Elijah Farmer aren’t particularly vocal on the basketball court. Instead, they prefer to let their play do their figurative talking.
Friday night the pair of Jamestown juniors had their game-time “volume” turned up to the max.
Gonzalez scored 19 points, grabbed four rebounds, and collected four assists and two steals, while Farmer also had 19 points to go along with 13 boards, three blocks and two steals to lead the Red & Green to a convincing 71-51 nonleague victory over Rush-Henrietta of Section V at McElrath Gymnasium.
The win improved Jamestown’s record to 16-2, while the Royal Comets suffered their second loss of the season and fell to 17-2.
With two regular-season games remaining — Monday against Bishop Timon and Wednesday vs. Clarence, both at home — the Red & Green is clicking on all cylinders at both ends of the court at precisely the right time.

Entering last night, the only blemish for Rush-Henrietta, No. 13 in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association Class AAA poll, was a four-point loss to Greece Athena on Monday, but 23rd-ranked Jamestown dominated the final three quarters by outscoring the Royal Comets 60-38 to post the convincing win.
“I don’t think there were a lot of people who thought we’d be able to beat them by the spread it ended up,” Jamestown coach Billy Miley said. “We have some guys who can score it, we’re really, really sharing it, everyone was mking shots and it was contagious.”
The Red & Green was especially impressive at the end of the third quarter and at the start of the fourth.
Leading 44-34, Gonzalez put on a show during the final two minutes of the third period as he scored the last 10 points on a pair of his patented “floaters” in the lane and two 3-pointers, the last coming at the buzzer.
Armed with a 52-36 lead, the Red & Green was just getting started. The hosts started the final quarter on a 15-0 run as Jaydian Johnson had a traditional three-point play and a make from beyond the arc; and Farmer poured in 9 points, pushing Jamestown’s lead to 67-36 with about four minutes remaining.
“I don’t think even a lot of our guys believed we could beat them by that score,” Miley said, “but when we play the way we want to, we’re capable of good things.”
Jaydian Johnson, who was recognized pregame with Carson Panebianco on Senior Night, finished with 15 points, eight assists and two steals; and junior Gavin Johnson and sophomore James Jackson added 10 and 8 points respectively off the bench.
The leader for Rush-Henrietta was junior Jalen Taggert, who poured in a game-high 39 points, but he received little support from his teammates.
NOTES: Jamestown shot 29 of 62 from the field compared to 17 of 50 for the Royal Comets. … The Red & Green also held a 31-29 rebounding advantage and won the turnover battle 17-7. … Monday’s varsity game is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. start, while Wednesday’s opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
