MAYVILLE — No. 8 Chautauqua Lake shut out No. 9 Global Concepts 12-0 in the second quarter on its way to a 53-41 victory in a Section VI Class C boys basketball prequarterfinal Thursday.

“I think our 1-3-1 gave them a few problems. We got a lot of deflections and a lot of steals,” Chautauqua Lake head coach Devin Pope said. “They kind of stalled out running an offense once we made that switch.”

Nick Jacobson led the Eagles with 21 points, eight steals and four assists; Nate Henry had 16 points and seven rebounds; Brendan Klossner grabbed seven rebounds and Trent Houser had six rebounds.

Chautauqua Lake will travel to No. 1 Randolph for a noon semifinal Saturday.

“It’s a survive-and-advance mentality, one game at a time. It’s a tall test in front of us,” Pope said of the matchup with the Cardinals. “We have nothing to lose. Nobody expects us to win. We’ll go in there and play ball the way we know how to and hopefully make it a game.”
