Pratt Returns Trojans To State Tournament

CHEEKTOWAGA — Anthony Pratt and Ryan Kelly are heading to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association bowling championships.

Pratt, a Southwestern senior, finished fourth and Kelly, a Fredonia junior, finished seventh at the Section VI Division 2 boys state qualifier held Thursday at AMF Airport Lanes.

Pratt, is the first Southwestern boy to qualify for states since Chris Goodwill in 2007, opened his morning with a 172-259-222 series and followed that up in the afternoon with a 206-204-257 to finish with a 1,320.

Kelly, who became the first Fredonia boy to ever qualify for the state tournament, opened his morning with a 228-205-215 set and followed that up with a 193-225-192 in the afternoon to complete a 1,258 series.

Falconer won the Class C championship with a team linescore of 987-821-954-884-960-914 to beat second-place Randolph (859-957-916-918-872-949-5,471) by 49 pins.

Tyler Swanson led the Golden Falcons with an 18th-place showing of 213-156-264-168-199-207-1,207. Joshua Lincoln was second for Falconer with a 234-156-176-215-203-191-1,175, followed by Erik Stenstrom (210-161-196-190-205-194-1,156), Javier Gonzales (208-177-163-146-151-156-1,001), Aiden Peters (122-171-155-149-202-166-965) and Trevor Lincoln (95-113-110-161-116-144-740)

The Cardinals were led by Andrew Bohall’s ninth-place showing of 236-209-201-256-151-190-1,243.

Depew won the overall Division 2 and Class C titles with a team linescore of 1,092-1,004-1,113-1,104-1,206-899 to easily beat second-place Maryvale by 486 pins. The Wildcats’ Ryan Sobierajski turned the performance of the day when he threw a perfect game in the second game of his afternoon. Sobierajski’s 205-184-255 morning coupled with his 235-300-220 earned him a first-place overall finish with 1,399 pins.

Third-place Ryan McIntyre of Maryvale earned the second state berth with a 227-243-234-215-225-216. Sixth-place Elijah Shute of Depew (218-225-213-237-223-143-1,259) and eighth-place Ryan Przepiora of JFK (196-192-234-186-206-236-1,250) round out the Section VI team heading to Syracuse.

Two non-pool bowlers — second-place Carter Ballard of Cheektowaga (238-225-209-244-247-210-1,373) and fifth-place Collin Fisher of Alden (149-222-216-236-202-278-1,303) finished inside the top 10.

Fredonia was 10th in Class C with a team linescore of 937-945-952-855-897-984-5,570 and Dunkirk was 11th (880-872-884-885-930-975-5,426), led by 16th-place Hans Lemiszko’s 212-172-226-202-201-201-1,214.

In Class D, Clymer/Sherman was third with a 742-813-852-954-839-911-5,111, led by 36th-place Max White’s 131-169-171-257-212-203-1,143.

Gowanda was fourth with a 740-925-841-823-868-857-5,054, led by 52nd-place Nicholas Smuda’s 147-182-192-157-195-202-1,075.

Brocton was fifth with an 841-820-761-852-889-841-5,004, led by 11th-place Jeremy Weisner’s 195-218-186-212-208-221-1,240.

Forestville was sixth with a 777-895-790-907-813-807-4,989, led by 67th-place Tyler Waugh’s 161-150-189-220-153-160-1,034.

Ellicottville was seventh with a 708-700-659-678-716-797-4,258, led by Grayson Neal’s 137-157-146-136-183-168-927.

The state championships are set for Friday, March 14 through Sunday, March 16 at AMF Syracuse Lanes.
