Westfield Boys Pull Away From Eagles 69-53 In Division 2

WESTFIELD — Carson Swanson scored 17 of his game-high 29 points in the second half as Westfield pulled away from Chautauqua Lake for a 69-53 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 boys basketball win Thursday evening.

The teams were tied at 28-all at halftime before a 17-10 third quarter. The Wolverines (10-1, 5-0) put the game away with a 24-15 fourth quarter that included 11-of-19 shooting from the charity stripe.

Swanson also had five assists, five steals and three blocked shots, while Lincoln Thomas added 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, for Westfield.

Nate Henry led the Eagles (5-5, 4-2) with 18 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists; Brendan Klossner had 12 points; Nick Jacobson had 10 points and six assists; and Carson Fairbank grabbed eight rebounds.

GOWANDA — Trelin Warrior scored 30 points and Logan Ruff added 19 to lead Gowanda to a 68-60 victory over Frewsburg in a Division 3 game.

The Panthers led 54-42 after three quarters and hit enough free throws down the stretch to stymie a Bears’ late rally. As a team, Gowanda (6-4, 2-0) connected on 19 of 25 free throws, including a combined 16 of 20 from Warrior and Ruff.

For Frewsburg (2-6, 1-1), Taran Laska scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out two assists and made a steal; Blake Weaver added 15 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, three steals and a blocked shot; Trent Lewis scored 10 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and four steals; and Kael Collver chipped in 12 points.

Hind added 11 assists, six rebounds and four steals; Carter Conley had 14 points and 10 rebounds; Broden Brooks had four 3-pointers; Kevin McElwain had 11 points and six steals; and Baker Huntington had eight rebounds for the Cardinals (7-1, 2-0).

EAGLES WIN

IN OVERTIME

ELLICOTTVILLE — Parker John made a 3-pointer with 6 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and Rylan Benjamin hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime as Ellicottville outlasted Cattaraugus-Little Valley 61-57 in Division 4 action.

The Eagles (4-3, 2-2) jumped out to a five-point lead in the extra session before the Timberwolves (2-7, 1-4) answered with a 5-0 run of their own. Benjamin then hit the go-ahead shot and Ellicottville held on down the stretch.

John finished with 19 points and eight rebounds while Blake Smith added 15 points and nine rebounds for Ellicottville.

Owen Wright led Cattaraugus-Little Valley with 17 points, Bransen Gable had 15 points and DJ Szata had 14.

Avery Brown added 11 points for the Warriors (7-1, 4-0), who led 31-19 at halftime.

Ryan Callen led the Gators (8-1, 4-1) with 12 points. Leading-scorer Carson Kwiatkowski was held scoreless in the first half and did not play in the second half due to an injury.
