Sherman Coasts Past Fredonia; Cougars Capture Winter Classic

FREDONIA — Teagan Gratto scored 8 points during an 18-0 first quarter as Sherman coasted past Fredonia 58-26 in nonleague girls basketball Saturday.

Kelsey Wagner led the Wildcats (7-1, 4-0 CCAA D2) with 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to go along with four steals and four assists. Emmersen Crawford had 16 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists; and Gratto had 16 points and 10 steals in the win.

Naomi Muck and Piper Walnicki each had 7 points for the Hillbillies (0-4, 0-0 CCAA D1).

COUGARS WIN WINTER CLASSIC

WESTFIELD — Tournament Most Valuable Player Emiley Anderson scored 21 points to go along with five steals and four rebounds to lead Cassadaga Valley to a 55-26 victory over Westfield in the Westfield Winter Classic on Saturday.

Teammate Aliyah Hopkins, who was also named to the all-tournament team, added 11 points, 12 rebounds and three steals; Hailey Anderson contributed 14 points, nine boards, four steals and four assists; and Breonna Hopkins added 5 points and nine rebounds.

The Cougars, who led 23-12 at halftime, put the game away with a 21-8 third-quarter run.

Mackenzie Schumaker, who was an all-tournament selection, led the Wolverines with 5 points.

Other members of the all-tournament team were Brooke Szymczak of Dunkirk and Maisy Post of North East (Pennsylvania).

In the consolation game, North East downed Dunkirk 43-27.

Samantha Probst led the winners with 13 points and Jalyssa Wicker chipped in 12.

For the Marauders, Ashley Collazo led the way with 12 points.
