Randolph Still At Top Of State ‘C’ Poll
SYRACUSE — Randolph remains the top-ranked Class C team in the recently released New York State Sportswriters Association boys basketball poll.
The Cardinals, who defeated Southwestern 47-44 in a nonleague game Monday, are now 3-1 on the season. One spot below is Westfield, which is 8-1.
Other area ranked teams are Panama (3-1) at No. 4 and Forestville (6-0) at No. 10 in Class D; Salamanca (3-1) at No. 14 in Class B; and Jamestown (5-1) No. 24 in Class AAA.
Honorable-mention selections among local teams are Falconer (5-3) and Fredonia (4-4) in Class B; Chautauqua Lake (4-3) in Class C; and Sherman (4-3) in Class D.
Other Western New York teams in the polls include: Niagara Falls (3-4), Class AAA; Canisius (8-1) No. 2 and St. Joe’s (6-1) No. 3 and Health Sciences (4-1) No. 13 in Class AA; Williamsville South (4-1) No. 9 and Grand Island (4-0) in Class A; Allegany-Limestone (6-0) No. 4 and Akron (6-0) No. 5 in Class B; and Holland (6-2) No. 17 in Class C.
Honorable-mention selections from WNY include: Lockport (4-2) and Orchard Park (3-0) in Class AA; and Buffalo Science (6-2) and Lewiston-Porter (4-2) in Class A.
Besides Randolph, the other top-ranked teams in the poll are Archbishop Stepinac (5-2) in Class AAA; Albany Academy (8-0) in Class AA; Glens Falls (6-0) in Class A; World of Inquiry (5-0) in Class B; and Fillmore (6-0) in Class D.
