Randolph Boys Edge Cato-Meridian At Tully Tourney
TULLY — The state’s top-ranked Class C boys basketball team continued its winning ways Friday in the first round of the Tully Tournament.
Sparked by 20 points from Drew Hind and six 3-pointers from Kevin McElwain, Randolph downed Cato-Meridian 49-39 in a first-round game. The Cardinals (4-1) will now meet Tully for the tournament championship at 6 p.m. today.
“It was a good win against a very good Cato-Meridian team that will be a force to reckon with for the next few years with 6-4 and 6-6 freshmen starters,” Randolph coach Kevin Hind said.
The Cardinals led 27-22 at halftime and then limited Cato-Meridian to 17 second-half points.
Drew Hind also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals; Griffin Nelson collected 6 points, three assists and three steals; and Carter Conley grabbed eight rebounds.
“Baker Huntington played great (defense) and gave us a big spark off the bench with five boards,” Coach Hind said.
Perry Planck IV and Dylan McGetrick led Cato-Merdian (5-2) with 9 points apiece. Its other setback came against Tully by one point two weeks ago.
Randolph’s junior varsity also won yesterday. It will play for the jayvee title at 4:30 this afternoon.

GATORS HOLD OFF ‘BILLIES
ALLEGANY — Carson Kwiatkowski scored 21 points and the Gators limited Fredonia to 4 points in the second quarter as they posted a 56-39 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 victory.
Fredonia (4-5, 1-2) was led by Donovan Dowdy with 16 points, five boards and three steals, while RJ Koopman had five boards, five assists and four steals and Colin Luce added six boards and a block.
Gavin Straub scored 12 points for Allegany-Limestone (7-0, 3-0).

PIRATES PULL AWAY FROM PV
CLYMER — Clymer outscored Pine Valley 11-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 53-32 nonleague victory.
The Pirates (3-4) were led by Carson White with 15 points, seven boards, five steals and three assists, Blake Beckerink scored 12 with four steals, Kameron Einink added 10 with five assists and five steals and Roman Wassink collected seven rebounds.
Pine Valley (2-3) was led by Trent Ivett with 8 points.

PANAMA — Carter Brink rained in 34 points as Panama stormed past Gowanda 91-46 in nonleague action.
Brink also collected five boards and three steals for Panama (4-1), while Tate Catanese posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards, Michael Horton scored 15 with three assists and two steals, Bryce Hinsdale dealt seven assists with seven boards and four steals, Wyatt Eggleston made four assists and Andrew Spiesman had 12 rebounds.
Gowanda (3-4) received 13 points from Trelin Warrior and 10 from Logan Ruff.

Brendan Klossner hit five triples in a game-high 21 points for Chautauqua Lake (4-4), while Nick Jacobson and Nate Henry both provided 11 points.
