Panthers Roll Bears To Claim D2 Title

GOWANDA — The Gowanda/Pine Valley boys wrestling team already secured a share of its league title, but on Thursday evening the Panthers defeated Frewsburg 57-12 to clinch the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 title outright with an unblemished record.

The Panthers (5-0) received pins from Greg Reid at 131 pounds, Maddox Hudson at 170 pounds and Alanson Stafford at 215 pounds en route to victory. Zach Stark also picked up a 8-7 decision at 116 pounds.

Frewsburg (0-3) received its points from pins by Quinlan Smathers at 152 pounds and Branden Francis at 285 pounds.

INKLEY EARNS 150th WIN IN RANDOLPH LOSS

MAYVILLE — The Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer boys wrestling team celebrated a 53-20 nonleague win over Randolph.

However, the Cardinals still had something to rejoice in as senior Caden Inkley recorded his 150th win when he secured a first-round pin against Tristen Gibbs at 160 pounds. Domanik Clark also provided a technical victory for the Cardinals at 138 pounds and Easton Pence narrowly secured an 11-10 decision at 170 pounds.

The Eagles achieved victory with six pins coming from Zander Lombardo at 108 pounds, Christopher Bowen at 116 pounds, Alex Bourgeois at 131 pounds, Mason Munoz at 145 pounds, Toby Watson at 152 pounds and Colton Hamilton at 190 pounds. The first technical fall of the evening also came from the Eagles as Thandon Bensink won his bout at 124 pounds 15-0.

GOLDEN COUGARS PIN HILLBILLIES

FREDONIA — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley secured six pins en route to a 51-23 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 victory over Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville.

The Golden Cougars (5-1) picked up pins by Gabe Lundmark at 124 pounds, Brayden McCarthy at 138 pounds, Charlie Reichenbach at 152 pounds, Riley Best at 160 pounds, Javonte Hackett at 190 pounds and Patrick Braley at 215 pounds. Dylan Newman also secured a 6-0 decision for Falconer/Cassadaga Valley at 131 pounds.

Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville (4-2) posted three pins and a technical fall in the effort. Victories by pinfall came from Rocco Muscarella at 101 pounds, Cam Ingram at 145 pounds and Isaac Rodriguez Arroyo at 285 pounds, while Mayson Simmons earned a 15-0 technical fall at 116 pounds.

Cole Bloomquist earned a 16-0 technical fall at 170 pounds that gave Jamestown just enough points to hold off Orchard Park for a 33-32 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 wrestling victory Thursday.

Adam Harrison gave the Red & Green a 6-3 lead with a pin at 285 pounds.

After the Quakers took a 9-6 lead, Zachary Little gave the lead back to Jamestown with a major decision.

Again Orchard Park took the lead, but Nicholas Melendez (124 pounds) and Tyler Zwald (131) earned back-to-back pins for the Red & Green to make it 22-12.

The Quakers eventually led 26-22, but a pin from Benjamin Brown (160 pounds) and Bloomquist’s victory made it 33-26 before Orchard Park won the final bout of the evening.

GOLDEN COUGARS FALL

HAMBURG — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley found some success late, but a 40-0 deficit was too much to overcome in a 50-23 nonleague loss to St. Francis on Wednesday.

Dylan Newman earned the Golden Cougars’ first victory with a 52-second pin at 124 pounds. Gabe Lundmark followed that up with a pin in 3:47 at 141 pounds.

After back-to-back St. Francis wins made it 50-12, Charlie Reichenbach earned a 16-1 technical fall at 152 pounds in 2:42. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s final win was a 1:29 pin by Riley Best at 160 pounds.
