When Jaydian Johnson was a kid, he often would look up at the west end of McElrath Gymnasium and see the list of names that comprise the Jamestown Basketball “Wall of Fame.”

Among them were Maceo Wofford, Jaysean Paige and James Rojas.

“I always looked up to those guys,” the senior guard said Thursday night. “They just inspired me. … I always wanted to put my name on the wall.”

Consider it done.

Johnson’s putback early in the third quarter — which gave him 1,000 points for his career — guaranteed for posterity his place on the wall among the greats in program history while highlighting the Red & Green’s dominant 91-53 Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 victory over Frontier.

Johnson finished with 34 points on 12 of 15 shooting from the field and now stands at 1,010 — good for 11th place on the all-time scoring list, just behind Donn Johnston (1,021), who is at No. 10.

“I didn’t rush it,” Johnson said. “It happened, you know? I just had a good night again. Everything was clicking on all cylinders.”

Never better than after halftime.

Leading 45-35, the Red & Green (8-1, 4-0) outscored the Falcons 32-2 in the third quarter. Seventeen of those points came from Johnson, who showed off his entire offensive arsenal, highlighted by the milestone field goal at the 5:34 mark.

“He’s a year-round kid, working on his game and getting shots up,” Jamestown head coach Billy Miley said. “He’s trying to get stronger and he has become a little bit more physical. He puts a lot of time in and takes the game really seriously. Certainly it’s a great accomplishment and it’s the result of the hard work he puts in.”

Johnson had plenty of help.

Junior Dom Gonzalez scored 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting, junior Elijah Farmer added 11 points and six assists, junior Jericho Thagard chipped in 10 points and junior Gavin Johnson added 8. As a team, the Red & Green shot 34 of 62 from the field, including a blistering 15 of 30 from the arc.

“When we play like we did in the third quarter, I think we can play with anybody in Western New York,” Miley said. “When we seem to dig in defensively and we get stops and are committed to what we want to do, the shots fall at the other end.”

Leading the way for Frontier (2-7, 1-3) was Matt Siener, who scored 20 points. Connor Cox added 12, but the Falcons shot just 18 of 43 from the floor and committed 19 turnovers.

NOTES: Jamestown, which was playing its first home game since opening the season Dec. 6 against Olean, will return to McElrath Gymnasium for a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday against St. Mary’s of Lancaster. … In the junior varsity game, the Red Green prevailed 41-27. Julian Jackson led the way for Jamestown (6-2) with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
