JCC Men Fall To Nationally Ranked MVCC
The scoreboard didn’t reflect how hard the Jamestown Community College men’s basketball team fought Tuesday against NJCAA second-ranked Mohawk Valley CC in an 87-68 loss at the Physical Education Complex.
After falling behind 13-5, JCC started a comeback, aided by a pair of Joey Valerio buckets to draw within five midway through the opening half.
The Jayhawks would close the game to just two on the next possession when Travis Castro buried a 3-pointer as part of his team-high 17.
Mohawk Valley CC would grow its lead back to 10 late in the half, but the Jayhawks had another answer from Federico Foddai, who finished the game with 15 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
Jamestown CC trailed by six at the break, 40-34. Jamestown came out cold to open the second stanza, with the deficit growing to 16, thanks to a 15-7 run by the Hawks.
A traditional three-point play by Castro put Jamestown down just 11 at the 13:49 mark, but it couldn’t get any closer. Valerio finished with 10 points.
The 19-point setback moved Jamestown to 4-14 on the year.
Jamestown hits the road this weekend for New York City, where it will take on Orange County CC at 2 p.m. on Saturday and then Monroe University-Bronx at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
