The last handful of games have been particularly eye-opening.

Monday night was the most recent example.

Together, the trio combined for 59 points, 20 rebounds and 16 assists to lead Jamestown to a 84-60 victory over Williamsville North in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 boys basketball action at McElrath Gymnasium.

The win improved the Red & Green’s record to 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the division, while the Spartans fell to 8-6 and 3-3. Jamestown can look to extend its winning streak to 11 games Wednesday when it entertains Lancaster at 1:30 p.m.

With Johnson, a senior, and Gonzalez and Farmer, both juniors, showing the way last night, the Red & Green will be tough to beat in that matinee.

“We’ve got to do what’s made us successful — the ball movement and sharing the ball,” Red & Green head coach Billy Miley said. “A lot of people have mentioned how fun we’ve been to watch because all kinds of guys are scoring, the ball is whipping around and we’re getting really easy shots. It’s fun basketball to watch.”

One need look no further than the third quarter for proof.

Leading 41-25 at halftime, Jamestown put the game completely out of reach, outscoring the Spartans 24-12 in the period as Johnson, Gonzalez and Farmer took turns in a game of “can you top this.”

Gonzalez scored 13 points during the run, Johnson had 6 and Farmer added 5. By quarter’s end the Red & Green led 65-37.

“When you’re playing with energy on defense, it’s hard not to be OK on offfense,” Miley said. “We maybe weren’t 100 percent engaged the whole time, but I thought we were a little better in the third quarter and that was the difference.”

The final eight minutes gave Miley a chance to play his reserves.

Johnson finished with 22 points and 10 assists; Gonzalez added 21 points and five assists; and Farmer collected 16 points, 12 boards, three blocked shots and two steals. From the field, as a team, Jamestown, which won 86-56 at Williamsville North on Jan. 7, shot 49% (35 of 72) and held a 43-26 rebounding advantage. About the only negative on the stat sheet was the Red & Green’s shooting from beyond the arc (6 of 26).

“Against (Williamsville North’s) zone, sometimes you can’t just draw up plays every time,” Miley said. “You’ve got to be able to get in gaps. … We’ve got guys that as soon as the ball gets swung, they can go by and make a play.”

NOTES: Junior Jericho Thagard had a fine all-around game for Jamestown, finishing with 10 points, three rebounds and an assist. Teammate Carson Panebianco contributed seven rebounds. … Chris Fagnan and AJ Weissenburg both scored 12 points to lead Williamsville North, while Greyson Goeble added 10. The Spartans shot 44% from the field (22 of 54). … In the junior varsity game, Jamestown improved to 8-3 following a 44-33 victory over the Spartans. Karson Milne led the way for the winners with 9 points and eight rebounds.
