Jamestown Girls Earn ‘Biggest Win Of Year’

CLARENCE — Anna Engquist scored 16 points, Makena Pryce had 14 and Aiyanna Stam chipped in 12 to lead Jamestown to a 60-54 victory over Clarence in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 girls basketball game Tuesday night.

“Biggest win of the year,” Red & Green coach Ken Ricker said. ” … We played great team defense to close out the game. … This team has been making strides and, after losing at home to Clarence in heartbreaking fashion, to win on the road on their Senior Night against a team celebrating eight seniors is amazing for our young squad.”

Stam pulled down 14 rebounds; Carley Daniels dished out six assists; and Payton Gibbs drilled a huge 3-pointer to tie the game with five minutes to go.

Although Jamestown missed 10 free throws in the final period, it hung for the win.

“Both Gibbs and Engquist had their best games of the season,” Ricker said.
