Jamestown Girls Comeback Falls Short Against Frontier

HAMBURG — Trailing by 15 points at halftime, Jamestown nearly pulled off quite a comeback before falling to Frontier 60-58 in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 girls basketball game on Monday.

“The young Red & Green made five 3-pointers in the third quarter and eventually had multiple opportunities to win the game down the stretch, but fell just short,” Jamestown head coach Ken Ricker said.

Leading the way for the Falcons (4-4, 1-2) was Sofija Urbanovica with 31 points, including 20 in the first half when they led 36-21. Teammate Sophia Petrie chipped in 10 points.

For the Red & Green (3-2, 0-2), Anna Engquist scored 16 points, including 14 in the second half when she drilled four 3-pointers; Carly Daniels chipped in 12 points and Payton Gibbs finished with 11.

FORESTVILLE — Carilene Sliwa scored 32 points and grabbed 12 steals to lead Forestville past West Valley in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 4 play.

Liz Case provided a double-double for the Hornets (3-2, 2-1) with 18 points and 11 rebounds while collecting four steals. Ingrid Gibson added nine rebounds and both Jazmyn Bertino and Chymerah Genovese had five rebounds each.

West Valley (0-5, 0-4) received 14 points and six rebounds from Magdalena Parish, Isabella Mitchell grabbed 10 rebounds and Karly Otto had four steals.
