Buzzer-Beater Sends JHS Girls To Defeat
So close. Oh, so close for the Jamestown girls.
But Allison Glaude of Clarence had other ideas as it was her long 3-pointer at the buzzer that lifted Clarence to a 66-64 overtime victory over the Red & Green in an Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 basketball game at McElrath Gymnasium on Saturday.
Glaude finished with 33 points, and her game winner overshadowed an outstanding performance by Aiyanna Stam, whose 3-pointer with 3.7 seconds left in the extra session gave Jamestown a one-point lead.
“It was an incredible game,” Red & Green head coach Ken Ricker said. “It was as intense as the gym has been for a girls game in quite a while, with great shot making by both teams down the stretch.”
Joining Glaude in double figures for the Red Devils (5-7, 3-2) was Julie Chiaino with 16 points.
Stam led Jamestown (3-5, 0-5) with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Anna Engquist added 20 points and 13 boards, and Makena Pryce chipped in 11 points.
The Red & Green led 28-18 at halftime, but Clarence outscored the hosts 23-15 in the third period to close the gap, and the game ultimately went to overtime tied at 54-all.
