SALAMANCA — For the third straight year, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer is the Section VI Division II wrestling dual meet champion.

The Eagles rolled to a 3-0 record Saturday at the Allegany Community Center to punch their ticket to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, Feb. 1, at SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer opened Saturday with a 65-12 win over Salamanca during which Toby Watson (152 pounds), Mason Maring (285 pounds) and Gavin Burchanowski (131 pounds) had pins. Thandon Bensink added an 18-1 technical-fall victory at 124 pounds.

Next, the Eagles beat Gowanda/Pine Valley 54-23. In that match, Watson, Tristen Gibbs (160 pounds), Colton Hamilton (215 pounds), Maring, Chase Shirley (101 pounds), Zander Lombardo (108 pounds), Burchanowski, Bensink and Mason Munoz (145 pounds) had takedowns for Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer.

The Eagles then topped Newfane 46-23 for the title. The Panthers’ Colin Doxey earned his team a 6-0 lead with a pin to open the match, but Caleb Szymanowski (190 pounds), Hamilton, Maring, Shirley and Lombardo won five straight bouts for a 29-6 lead. After a forfeit at 116 pounds, Bensink, Burchanowski, Eddy and Munoz gave Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer a 46-12 lead that Aidan Gillings (152 pounds) and Ayden Buttery (160 pounds) couldn’t do anything about for Newfane.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley finished third with a 46-29 victory over fourth-place Gowanda/Pine Valley.

Last year, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama/Clymer finished second to Palmyra Macedon in their pool and did not advance to the semifinals at the state meet. In 2023, the Eagles went 1-1 in pool play, losing to eventual state-champion Tioga.
