Trocki Steals Spotlight At Roger Weiss Memorial Showcase
Lancaster senior Madison Francis — who signed a national letter of intent to attend Mississippi State University last month — was the marquee player in the second annual Roger Weiss Memorial Showcase on Saturday.
But Frewsburg sophomore Jadyn Trocki continued to show that she belongs in that conversation in the coming years.
Trocki scored 17 of her team-high 21 points in the second half as the Bears turned a tie game at halftime into a 25-point blowout of the Legends with a 68-43 victory in the final of four games at Jamestown High School’s McElrath Gymnasium.
Frewsburg turned the ball over 10 times in the first half and Francis put her stamp on the game early with 15 of her game-high 22 points in the opening 16 minutes.
But after halftime, the Bears turned the tables. They took their first lead of the game on an Abery Harvey free throw with 7:15 left in the third quarter and took the lead for good minutes later when Harvey converted a three-point play. A 17-4 run to close the quarter made it 44-35 entering the final eight minutes.
Lancaster (1-3) never challenged the remainder of the way.
Jadyn Trocki added 12 rebounds and six assists, while Ava Jimerson had 19 points and five steals for Frewsburg (2-0). Kaylee Cappa had nine rebounds, while Taytum Jimerson had five rebounds and five assists.
HORNELL 48, RANDOLPH 39
In the third game of the day, defending Class B Far West Regional champion Hornell led Randolph 33-18 at halftime and the Cardinals never got closer than six in the second half as the Red Raiders won 48-39.
Payton Bentley and Selena Maldonado led Hornell (2-0) with 13 points apiece, while Jordyn Drying added 11.
Randolph turned the ball over 18 times and shot 14 of 60 from the field. Skylar Herington led the Cardinals (1-2) with 14 points to go along with seven assists and two blocked shots. Sadie Steward had 10 points and eight rebounds; Gianna Bowles had nine rebounds and four steals; Aliza Hind chipped in five rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals; and Quinn Pence had five steals, five rebounds and three assists.
Randolph trailed 33-18 at halftime, but got back in the game by forcing seven turnovers and outscoring Hornell 11-4 in the third quarter. A 3-pointer from Steward with 5:51 remaining in the fourth quarter made it 41-33, but the Cardinals made just two more field goals the rest of the way.
JAMESTOWN 50, WILSON 37
Jamestown led Wilson 38-35 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored the Lady Lakemen 12-2 over the final eight minutes to win 50-37.
Carley Daniels had a pair of buckets, while Nayani Reid, Aiyanna Stam, Anna Engquist and Makena Pryce all scored in the fourth quarter for the Red & Green (2-0).
Stam led Jamestown with 13 points and Engquist added 12 in the game.
