Tavio Hoose Leads St. Francis To Victory At STWOA Tournament

A familiar face to Chautauqua County wrestling fans led St. Francis to a team title at the Southern Tier Wrestling Officials Association Tournament this weekend at Jamestown Community College.

Tavio Hoose, a junior wrestling for the Red Raiders, won the 190-pound weight class with a 22-6 technical fall at the 2:33 mark of his championship bout.

Hoose was one of four St. Francis wrestlers to win weight-class titles.

Griffin LaPlante beat Randolph’s Caden Inkley 17-4 in the 160-pound final, Zachary Caldwell pinned Sharpsville’s Max Hernandez in 3:57 in the 215-pound final and William Wortkoetter earned a 4-0 decision over Wilson’s Hamza Merrick in the 285-pound final. Wortkoetter and Merrick were teammates until this year when Wortkoetter also enrolled at St. Francis.

Cullen Edwards took second place for the Red Raiders, losing the 124-pound final to Williamsville North’s Brayden Kellison 12-10.

Randolph’s Kamren Anderson won the 101-pound championship with a 3-1 decision over Fredonia/Silver Creek/Forestville’s Rocco Muscarella in the final.

At 108 pounds, Southwestern’s Adrian Torres lost a 5-3 decision to Williamson’s Zander Wilson.

Lewiston-Porter’s Jardon Barrientos beat Harbor Creek’s Hunter Chew with a 17-1 technical fall in 4:41 in the 116-pound final.

At 131 pounds, Southwestern’s Carmine Calimeri dominated Warren’s Adika Fiscus 19-3 for a technical fall in 4:39.

Sharpsville’s Ethan Springer pinned Jamestown’s Tyler Zwald in 4:34 to end the 138-pound final.

Newfane went back-to-back at 145 pounds and 152 pounds with Aidan Gillings earning a 16-1 technical fall over Wilson’s Victor Cusatis in 4:47 at 145 pounds and his teammate, Ayden Buttery earning a 17-2 technical fall in 4:00 over teammate Jake Morrello at 152 pounds.

Bolivar-Richburg’s Tavyn MacDonell earned a 12-5 decision over Wilson’s Jacob Stephenson at 170 pounds before St. Francis won the final three weight classes of the tournament.
