JCC Women Breeze Past Villa Maria
The outcome was never in doubt as the Jamestown Community College women’s basketball team topped four-year school Villa Maria 95-55 on Tuesday at the Physical Education Complex.
Jamestown CC, which has now won four straight, jumped out to a 16-2 advantage, capped by a fastbreak layup by Kendra Altadonna, assisted by Jennica Berens who had nine helpers for the game. Altadonna scored 14 in the win.
Villa would get the deficit down to 20-13 in the second quarter, before the Jayhawks (8-2) went on another run. They doubled up the Vikings, 32-16, with three minutes left in the half on an Alyson Canfield putback. The local product poured in 18, rewarding Coach Dave Turnbull for putting her in the starting lineup, and Jamestown CC took a 42-18 lead to the break.
The Jayhawks’ advantage ballooned to more than 30 points early in the third quarter off of 5 straight points from Andrea Johnson, who scored 13 off the bench. They return to action on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. when they host Sheridan College.
