Frewsburg Girls Roll Lockport For Spot In Final
FREWSBURG — Jadyn Trocki’s running 3-point attempt from just beyond half-court hit the backboard and then glanced off the front of the rim to end the first quarter Friday afternoon.
That miss was about the only thing to go wrong for the Bears sophomore guard in the opening eight minutes of her team’s game against Lockport to open the Frewsburg Holiday Tournament.
Trocki scored 16 of her game-high 29 points in the first quarter as Frewsburg built a 30-7 lead en route to a 95-24 victory over the Lions.
The Bears started the game on an 8-0 run, scoring all of their points off turnovers. All told in the first quarter, Frewsburg scored 23 of its 30 points off 13 Lockport turnovers. It didn’t help that the Lions were playing without injured senior guard Azriel Hall, their leading scorer on the season at 17.25 points per game.
Bears senior Ava Jimerson scored 7 of her 21 points during the second quarter as the hosts took a 50-13 lead into halftime.
Jadyn Trocki added 10 more points in the third quarter to give Frewsburg a 77-22 lead entering the final eight minutes.
When Teghan Trocki hit a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to give the Bears 95 points, it set a new program record. Frewsburg had previously scored 93 points in a win over Dunkirk back in 2021.
Jadyn Trocki had nine assists and eight steals to go along with her 29 points, while Ava Jimerson had seven rebounds, five steals and five assists. Kaylee Cappa had 12 points and four rebounds; Teghan Trocki had 10 points and four rebounds; Taytum Jimerson had 9 points, six assists and five steals; and Elysse Gruber had a team-high nine rebounds for the Bears (5-0).
Siraya “Raya” Myles had a team-high 11 points for Lockport (3-2).
Frewsburg will take on Warren (Pa.) in today’s 6 p.m. championship game, while Lockport will take on Clarence in the consolation game at 2 p.m.
WARREN (PA) 56, CLARENCE 54
Victoria Solberg made a pair of free throws with 2.8 seconds remaining and Warren (Pa.) survived a desperation 3-point attempt from Clarence’s Allison Glaude as the Dragons beat the Red Devils 56-54.
Clarence led for the entire game, including 43-42 entering the fourth quarter, until Warren tied the game at 49 on a Peyton Wotorson 3-pointer with 5:31 remaining.
The Dragons took their first lead of the game on a pair of free throws from Wotorson with 3:13 left to lead 53-51. The Dragons went ahead by three on a free throw from Alana Stuart with 1:49 remaining.
Clarence tied the game at 54 on a 3-pointer from Izzy Zuppa with 1:08 left, but turned it over and missed a 3-point attempt on its next two possessions.
Solberg then grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled on a putback attempt with 2.8 seconds left before delivering the go-ahead buckets for Warren.
The Red Devils’ final possession eventually found Glaude off a sideline inbounds play, but with her back to the basket, the senior guard was forced to throw up a one-handed heave that glanced off the rim at the buzzer.
Wotorson led Warren with 20 points, while Stuart had 11. Solberg and Alyssa Farr finished with 10 points apiece.
Vivianna Hallam led Clarence with 14 points, Glaude had 12 and Gabri Hallam had 10.
Warren will take on Frewsburg in today’s 6 p.m. championship game, while Clarence will take on Lockport in the consolation game at 2 p.m.
