F/F/J/S Boys Swim Team Has Night To Remember
CLARENCE — The Frewsburg/Falconer/Jamestown/Southwestern boys swim team had a meet to remember Friday night.
Make that a record-breaking one.
Competing in the Andrew Byer Memorial at Clarence High School, the Bears turned in outstanding swims by many to finish second behind Orchard Park in a showdown of the six fastest teams in Section VI.
The kids from Chautauqua County showed their talents on the big stage in a big way, earning state cuts in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200 individual medley, the 50 freestyle, the 100 butterfly, the 100 freestyle, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay.
But those milestones only tell a portion of the story.
Not only did the medley relay of Landon Frederes, Conner Dean, and Grady and Miles Moore (1:35.03); 200 individual medley standout Dean (1:52.85); and the 400 freestyle relay team of Grady Moore, Frederes, Dean and Miles Moore set Clarence pool records, they also set marks for the schools they attend.
Dean is now the Jamestown record holder in the 100 breaststroke (57.46) and the 200 individual medley (1:52.85); Miles Moore holds the Southwestern mark in the 100 freestyle (46.82); and Frederes has the Frewsburg standard in the 100 backstroke (54.02).
For the record, Frewsburg/Falconer/Jamestown/Southwestern captured eight first places overall, including two double individual victories by Dean, Miles Moore and Frederes, whose other No. 1 finish came in the 200 individual medley (25.20).
“Great times by all our swimmers,” Bears coach Glen Shoup said.
