MAYVILLE — Eight pins allowed Chautauqua Lake/Panama/Westfield/Clymer/Brocton/Sherman to beat Dunkirk 45-20 in the first girls wrestling match played under freestyle rules.

Kassidy Benedetto (94 pounds), Kortlyn Fairbank (107 pounds), Alice Scarpine (114 pounds), Noli Paddock (132 pounds), Gabriella Testa (145 pounds), Lilly Hyde (152 pounds), Chloe Hosier (185 pounds) and Meghan Pauley (235 pounds) had pins for the Eagles.

Damarielys Cruz (100 pounds), Kiana Jessie (120 pounds), Eva Colon-DeJesus (138 pounds) and Kami McWillson (165 pounds) had takedowns for the Marauders.

“This will definitely be a season of learning and growth for us. We have a lot of young girls on the team this year with many first year wrestlers filling our varsity lineup,” Dunkirk head coach Connor Aitcheson said. “As for our returners, the transition from folkstyle to freestyle wrestling on the girls’ side will be an adjustment for them, as well as our coaching staff. We are very pleased with how our girls performed at Chautauqua Lake. Now we know what to expect and what we need to do to see growth and success this season.”
