Verbosky Leads Red Dragons In Boys Class D Race, Martin-Lacayo Leads Wolfpack Girls
QUEENSBURY — Maple Grove’s boys finished third and Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s girls took fourth in the Class D races at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association cross country championships Saturday at Queensbury High School.
Ethan Verbosky’s eighth-place finish in 16:24 led the Red Dragons to a team total of 98 points. Port Jefferson won with 53 points and Remsen was second with 78 points. Maple Grove’s Jacob Lewis was 49th (17:37.9), Ty Kraft was 52nd (17:42), Liam Price was 54th (17:49.4) and Jack Sherry was 64th (18:07) to round out Maple Grove’s five scoring runners.
The Wolfpack finished fourth in the girls race with 124 points. Mount Academy was first with 52 points, followed by Lake Placid (60) and Beaver River (105). Solki Martin-Lacayo was Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s top finisher in 34th with a time of 21:05.4. Tess Flikkema was 42nd (21:21.2), Grace Cooke was 56th (21:44.2), Caitlyn Kriner was 58th (21:52.9) and Brooke Warner was 80th (23:08.5).
The top 20 finishers in each race earned medalist honors.
Southwestern’s Emma Lewis finished seventh in the girls Class C race with a time of 18:51.9, helping the Section VI team take first with 229 points.
Frewsburg’s Cody Kent was 15th in the Class D boys race with a time of 16:44.1. Allegany-Limestone’s Elexa Duggan was fifth in the girls Class D race with a time of 19:25.5.
Silver Creek/Forestville’s Leah Mays was 26th in the Class C girls race with a time of 19:44.7 and Salamanca’s Ryanna Brady was 40th (20:22.9).
Section VI also claimed the Class C boys title with 190 points. Fredonia/Westfield’s Trenton Krenzer was 54th with a time of 17:21.7.
In the Class A boys race, Jamestown’s Clevon Wofford finished 74th in 16:44.
West Valley’s Olivia Harmony was 27th in the Class D girls race with a time of 20:52, followed by Maple Grove’s Evalyn Fessel in 49th (21:30.3) and Randolph’s Gracyn Rowland in 59th (21:57.6).
In the Class D boys race, West Valley’s Jack Tharnish was 24th (17:00.6), Gowanda’s Chase Bolen was 26th (17:06.2), Franklinville/Ellicottville’s Grant Cornell was 36th (17:16.1) and Gowanda’s Cashis Montour was 38th (17:18.8).
The federation championships will take place this coming Saturday at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
