Westfield/Brocton Turns It On Late To Beat Eagles
WESTFIELD — Westfield/Brocton scored four goals in the final 34 minutes to beat Chautauqua Lake 4-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division III boys soccer Wednesday night.
Tristen Phillips scored in the 56th minute, Anthony Gatto scored from Braylon Swanson in the 60th minute, Carson Swanson scored from Danny Bratton in the 71st minute and Anthony Cruz scored from Carson Swanson in the 74th minute for the Wolverines (9-2-2, 5-1-1). Nolan Anderson made three saves in net for Westfield/Brocton.
Nate Henry scored and Brendan Klossner was credited with 20 saves for the Eagles (5-3-0, 7-6-0).
FREEMAN SCORES FOUR GOALS
SOUTH DAYTON — Cooper Freeman had four goals and two assists to lead Randolph to a 7-0 defeat of Pine Valley/Gowanda in Division II.
Drew Hind added a hat trick and an assist; Cody Slade had two assists; and Parker Patterson and Isaac Pihlblad each had an assist for the Cardinals (12-2-1, 8-1-0). Randy Nottingham and Peyton McClune split the clean sheet for Randolph.
Cyrus Jackson made six saves for the Panthers (1-11-0, 1-8-0).
CV/F NETS TWO PENALTY KICKS
CATTARAUGUS — Kale Livengood’s penalty kick in the 59th minute proved to be the game-winning tally as Cassadaga Valley/Falconer beat Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley 3-1 in Division II.
Patrick Holmberg scored unassisted in the 34th minute and Donovan Delaney added a penalty kick in the final minute for the Golden Cougars (5-8-2, 3-5-1).
Mason Brewer scored from Kayden McCune in the 67th minute for the Warwolves (1-13-0, 1-8-0). Carter Light made 15 saves in the loss.
YOUNG REACHES 30 GOALS
WEST ELLICOTT — Connor Young scored five goals, his last giving him 30 on the season, as Southwestern beat Jamestown 8-1 to wrap up at least a share of the Division I title.
Nolan Lefler, Bergen Nelson and Tate James also scored for the Trojans (14-1-0, 9-0-0), while Lefler and Chase Hartnett each had two assists. Grey Kidder, Seth Vaughn and Nelson each added an assist for the winners.
Southwestern will travel to Allegany-Limestone next Wednesday. A win or tie would give the Trojans the league title outright.
The Red & Green fell to 3-10-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the league.
PORTVILLE BLANKS EAGLES
PORTVILLE — Braedon Carter scored from Owen Faulkner in the fourth minute and Colin German added a goal in the 50th minute as Portville topped Ellicottville 2-0 in Division II.
The Panthers improved to 10-1-2 overall and 8-1-0 in the league, while the Eagles fell to 6-6-2 overall and 5-3-1 in the league.
MONDAY
HENRY HAS BIG DAY
MAYVILLE — Nathan Henry had two goals and two assists to lead Chautauqua Lake past Silver Creek/Forestville 6-1 in Division III.
Henry scored from Brendan Klossner in the 23rd minute and Travis Horvath in the 26th minute before assisting on a Kameron Press goal in the 30th minute.
After halftime, Press scored from Michael Horvath in the 50th minute, Lincoln Smith scored in the 65th minute from Henry and Klossner scored from Aden Gollhardt in the 78th minute.
The victory continued Chautauqua Lake’s strong play which included a 1-0 victory over Maple Grove the game prior and in that Press scored the lone goal from Henry.
The Eagles improved to 7-5-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the league, while the Black Knights fell to 4-6-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.
