Verbosky, Lewis Capture CCAA Titles
Maple Grove Boys, Clymer/Sherman/Panama Girls Claim Team Championships
BEMUS POINT — Merely formalities at this point in the season, Ethan Verbosky and Emma Lewis were crowned Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association individual champions Friday afternoon at Bemus Point Golf Course.
Verbosky, a Maple Grove senior, won the boys race in 15:54.98 and Lewis, a Southwestern sophomore, won the girls race in 18:43.36.
Frewsburg’s Cody Kent was second in the boys race with a time of 16:33.04, followed by Jamestown’s Clevon Wofford (16:39.48), West Valley’s Jack Tharnish (16:40.97), Jamestown’s Wyatt Olmstead (16:45.55), Gowanda’s Chase Bolen (16:46.66), Franklinville/Ellicottville’s Grant Cornell (16:58.20), Jamestown’s Finn Caswell (17:00.21), West Valley’s Noah Klahn (17:04.39) and Fredonia/Westfield’s Trenton Krenzer (17:09.78).
Allegany-Limestone’s Elexa Duggan was second in the girls race with a time of 19:12.73), followed by Silver Creek/Forestville’s Leah Mays (19:13.69), West Valley’s Olivia Harmony (19:18.56), Salamanca’s Ryanna Brady (19:49.11), Fredonia/Westfield’s Isabella Czekanski (20:11.49), Randolph’s Gracyn Rowland (20:17.08), Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Tess Flikkema (20:20.37), Southwestern’s Tryniti Card (20:21.19) and Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Solki Martin-Lacayo (20:34.04).
Maple Grove won the boys team title with 57 points, led by Verbosky, 14th-place Jacob Lewis (17:32.42), 17th-place Joshua Ashbaugh (17:40.64), 18th-place Jack Sherry (17:41.04) and 19th-place Liam Price (17:50.28).
Clymer/Sherman/Panama earned the girls title with 58 points, paced by Flikkema, Martin-Lacayo (20:34.04), 11th-place Grace Cooke (20:39.90), 20th-place Caitlyn Kriner (21:31.14) and 34th-place Bria Palmatier (22:32.09).
Jamestown was second in the boys team results with 60 points, followed by Fredonia/Westfield (114), Gowanda (129), Clymer/Sherman/Panama (140), Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (169), Franklinville/Ellicottville (179), West Valley (189), Southwestern (190), Silver Creek/Forestville (251) and Olean (254).
Jamestown was also second in the girls team results with 72 points, followed by Southwestern (88), Maple Grove (93), Fredonia/Westfield (140), Silver Creek/Forestville (157), Olean (172), Gowanda (194) and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley (205).
Next week the teams will compete in the Section VI championships at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. Competition will begin with Class A boys at 10 a.m., Class B boys at 10:30 a.m., Class A girls at 11 a.m. and Class B girls at 11:30 a.m. After a break, Class C boys will run at 1 p.m., Class D boys at 1:30 p.m., Class C girls at 2 p.m. and Class D girls at 2:30 p.m.
The state championships will take place Nov. 16 at Queensbury High School.
