Southwestern’s Lewis Claims Alden Bulldogs XC Stampede

ALDEN — Runners from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association fared quite well in the girls Blue Varsity 5-kilometer race at the 38th Alden Bulldogs Cross Country Stampede on Saturday.

Nobody was better than Emma Lewis.

The Southwestern sophomore toured the 5-meter course in 18 minutes, 48.78 seconds to claim first place, just shy of a minute faster than Silver Creek’s Leah Mays (19:37.63). Other top-10 finishers among local runners were Ryanna Brady of Salamanca (19:58.34), third; Tess Flikkema of Clymer/Sherman/Panama (20:56.01), sixth; Grace Cook of C/S/P (21:03.27), ninth; and Trinity Card of Southwestern (21:09.91).

In team scoring, C/S/P was first with 75 points, followed by Batavia with 75, Southwestern with 83, Pioneer with 103, LeRoy/Caledonia-Mumford with 111, Alden with 136, Akron with 153, Iroquois with 175 and Maryvale with 179.

The remaining CCAA runners who finished in the top 40 were Caitlyn Kriner of C/S/P (22.17.48), 23rd; Bria Palmatier of C/S/P (23:02.47), 36th; Baya Oehlbeck of C/S/P (23:10.27), 39th; and Abi Malecki of C/S/P (23:10.97), 40th.

In the girls Gold Varsity 5K race, Jamestown’s London Hamilton (20:13.39) and Nora Bailey (21:20.09) finished 14th and 35th respectively. As a team, the Red & Green placed 10th with 221 points. Webster Thomas was first with 128.

The top finisher among CCAA runners in the boys races was Jamestown’s Clevon Wofford, who toured the 5K course in 16:46.5, which was good for seventh place in the Gold Varsity race. Teammates Wyatt Olmstead (17:03.67) and Finn Caswell (17:46.85) also placed in the top 40 at 13th and 34th respectively. The Red & Green placed fifth as a team with 188 points. Churchville-Chili was first with 49.

In the boys Blue Varsity race, Cashis Montour of Gowanda (17:20.22) placed ninth and Donavin Brown of Southwestern (17:27.10) was 10th to claim the best finishes among local runners.

Others in the top 40 were Daniel Peterson of Frewsburg (17:51.46), 14th; Rhys Kelly of Randolph (18:13.88), 19th; Flynn Fadale of Clymer/Sherman/Panama (18:14.22), 20th; Christopher Phelps of C/S/P (18:17.32), 21st; Benjamin Bock of Silver Creek (18:21.18), 22nd; Max Guzman of C/S/P (18:51.13), 32nd; Finn Fadale of C/S/P (18:57.46); and Brendin Diebel of Gowanda (19:20.88), 39th.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama placed third as a team with 101 points, Southwestern was 10th with 232 and Silver Creek was 12th with 247. Batavia was the team winner with 71 points.
