Section VI Irons Out Details Of Playoffs
Section VI released its football playoff schedule Sunday afternoon, clarifying its Class C South tie-breaking procedure in the process.
Salamanca had already clinched the Class C South No. 1 seed heading into this past weekend, but results from two other games affected the division’s Nos. 2-4 seeds.
Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton, which lost to Portville/Cuba-Rushford on Friday night, actually clinched the No. 2 seed through a three-way tie with the Panthers and Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove. Since all three finished with 5-2 records in the division, the first tiebreaker was point differential, which resulted in the Eagles as the No. 2 seed. After the three-way tie was broken, the tiebreaker for two teams was head-to-head record, which favored the Herd over Portville/Cuba-Rushford for the No. 3 seed due to their 34-14 victory Sept. 20.
As the CS No. 1 seed, Salamanca will host Class C North No. 4 seed Cleveland Hill in Friday’s quarterfinals.
