Lincoln Carpenter’s first attempt at a free kick early in Friday’s Section VI Class AAA quarterfinal soccer game sailed high over the crossbar at Strider Field.

He didn’t make that same mistake twice.

The senior midfielder’s second try found the back of the net with 1:21 remaining to send No. 3 Jamestown to a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Niagara Falls.

The win advances the Red & Green into the semifinals against No. 2 Hutch Tech/Culinary Arts/Emerson at 5 p.m. Thursday at All High Stadium in Buffalo.

Jamestown’s other goals came from Tavion Goodlow, assisted by Beckett Lumia; and Lumia from Goodlow. For the Wolverines, Anthony Littere’s goal at the 37:40 mark of the first half on an assist from London Palmer trimmed the lead to 2-1 at the break.

After intermission, Mokwa Majaliwa assisted on Palmer’s goal to tie the game with a shade over eight minutes remaining, but Carpenter tallied the game winner seven minutes later to send the Red & Green to the semifinals.

Evan Maloney made 15 saves in net for Jamestown.

Starting at $2.99/week.
