Jamestown’s Ground Game Leads It Past Frontier In Opener 40-0
HAMBURG — Asked if he had dried out late Friday night after Jamestown’s rain-swept road trip for its season-opening football game against Frontier, head coach Tom Langworthy said, in fact, that he had.
“Coaches generally always bring a change of clothes,” he said with a laugh.
Langworthy had plenty to smile about even though the weather didn’t cooperate.
Chase Bonta rushed for, unofficially, 120 yards and scored three touchdowns; Dominic Gonzalez added 84 yards and one TD; Cole Bloomquist chipped in 59 yards on the ground; Luis Diaz found the end zone once; and Adam Kubera connected with Ayden Samuelson on a 43-yard touchdown pass to lead the Red & Green to a 40-0 victory.
“I was really proud of our guys. They’ve worked really hard over the winter, spring and summer,” Langworthy said. “I always feel it’s important to win the first game of the season, because it shows guys all the hard work was worth something.”
Jamestown led 27-0 at halftime and tacked on a pair of touchdowns after intermission to win going away.
“Our running game is going to be the foundation of the team,” Langworthy said. “We have good experience coming back. At the same time, I think we have a lot of room to grow.”
The Red & Green will return to action next Friday when they entertain St. Joe’s at Strider Field. “We don’t play them a lot, not in many years,” Langworthy said. “They’re an unfamiliar opponent. It’s our home opener, so we’re excited.”
