ROCHESTER — The Maple Grove boys cross country team had quite the showing at the McQuaid Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Genesee Valley Park. The Red Dragons notched first place out of 56 qualified teams in the Boys Varsity A-2 Division more than 60 points above second-place Northeast Bradford and setting the pace was junior Ethan Verbosky with a blazing first-place time of 15:23.0.

Maple Grove posted a score of 136 with Verbosky in front, Jacob Lewis finished 12th at 16:17.9, Jack Sherry was 43rd at 17:08.8, Owen Erlandson took 54th at 17:20.8 and Ty Kraft was right behind him for 55th with 17:21.7. The Red Dragons had two more runners not added to the top five score but still finished in the top 100 and it was Josh Ashbaugh at 62nd with 17:35.1 and Liam Price in 86th with 18:00.4.

Frewsburg did not have a team score, but Cody Kent claimed 9th place with a time of 16:09.6 and teammate Daniel Peterson also finished in the top 100 with a time of 17:58.8 for 83rd.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama finished in the 10th place spot with a score of 460 and a pair of top 100 finishes. Finn Fadale claimed 46th for the Wolfpack with a time of 17:14.1, Flynn Fadale was 84th at 17:59.4, then Kody Howard, Max Guzman and Ely Smith rounded out the top five.

Gowanda just missed a top 10 spot at 11th with a team score of 474 and Chase Bolen’s 16:25.1 was good for 14th in the division.

Rounding out the Panthers’ team score behind Bolen are Cashis Montour in 28th with a time of 16:53.6, and the trio of Dustin Mohawk, Nathan Warrior and Brendin Diebel outside the top 100 times.

Falconer finished 22nd overall with 637 points and was led by Gabe Lundmark at 17:43.3 in 69th and Brent Troutman finishing 99th at 18:25.9. James Mitchner, Seth Carr and Liam Sharp added up the remaining points for the Golden Falcons.

DIVISION A-1

East Aurora had quite the showing with 76 points for first place out of 53 qualified teams in the boys A-1 Varsity Division and Alden’s Gage Feider had the top time of 15:13.9.

Fredonia was the top local squad in 15th with a score of 488 led by Trenton Krenzer in 28th with a pace of 16:40.2. James Fagan also had a top 100 time for the ‘Billies as he ran 17:56.1 for 88th, then Nathan Keefe, Jack Fagan and Alexander Cramer rounded out the top five runners.

Southwestern finished 34th with a score of 866 and was led by Donavin Brown running 17:18.4 for 53rd. Tristan Taylor, Ethan Lohnes, Kellan Brown and Kaleb James added to the Southwestern score.

Ben Bock’s 85th-place time of 17:53.2 led Silver Creek to 43rd with a score of 1,059. The Black Knights also received points from Trent Lack, Nate Cross, Dan Thies and Caden Fote.

Salamanca did not qualify to finish, but was led by Jaxon Crouse with a top time of 18:43.6.

DIVISION AA

Pittsford Sutherland narrowly edged Fordham Prep for the top spot in the medium schools AA Division at 160 to 169. Daniel Granville of Greece Arcadia had the top time of 15:21.7.

Randolph was led by Rhys Kelly with a time of 18:43.6 and Nick Ashdown also participated in the event.

DIVISION AAA

Churchville-Chili scored 91 points to claim first in the AAA Division for large schools and Carson Zuba of Lancaster had the top time of 15:38.7.

Jamestown finished 7th out of 23 teams with a score of 246 and was paced by CJ Wofford with a time of 16:33.9 in 17th. The Red & Green placed five runners in the top 100, behind Wofford, Finn Caswell ran 16:57.8 for 24th, Wyatt Olmstead ran 18:01.9 for 66th, Andrew Marucci came in at 18:16.1 for 71st and Tommy Kathman rounded out the squad with 18:17.5 for 74th.

GIRLS

DIVISION A-2

The Clymer/Sherman/Panama girls cross country team scored 183 points for 5th place and was led by Solki Martin-Locayo in 20th at 20:27.0.

At the top, Lake Placid scored 121 points for first and Isabel Griffin of Rocky Grove (Pa.) set the pace 18:41.2.

Adding to the Wolfpack score are Grace Cooke in 19th at 20:57.8, Tess Flikkema in 38th at 21:13.2, Caitlyn Kriner in 59th at 21:39.5 and Abby Malecki in 22:45.2 at 110th place.

Maple Grove finished in 6th with a score of 213 and was led by Evalyn Fessel in 23rd with a time of 20:46.3. Also cracking the top five runners for the Red Dragons are Lily Bohall in 47th at 21:23.3, Presley Haines in 49th at 21:23.7, Mae Benedetto at 21:52.7 in 74th and Sydney Simmons at 22:35.2.

Gowanda finished in last place of the qualified squads with a team score of 846 points and was led by Degaswined John.

Frewsburg did not bring enough runners to place as a team, but a pair of girls cracked the top 50 times. Grace Gilevski set the bar in 33rd with a time of 21:08.8 and Teghan Trocki came in 46th with a time of 21:23.2.

Falconer and Cattaraugus-Little Valley also competed, but did not have runners crack the top 100.

DIVISION A-1

The East Aurora girls matched their male counterparts with another dominant first-place finish with 54 points and were led by Emilia O’Leary in first place with a time of 17:23.9.

Southwestern’s Emma Lewis was a top-five runner at a blazing pace of 18:09.3 for 5th and that helped put the Trojans in 16th out of 36 finishing teams with 409 points. Triniti Card joined Lewis in the top 100 with a pace of 20:23.3 for 37th, Lillian Weikel was 83rd with 21:35.6, and Addison Shaw and Taylor Long rounded out the Southwestern top five.

Silver Creek’s Leah Mays was just outside the top 10 at No. 14 with a time of 19:18.9 and the Black Knights ended in 20th with a score of 542. Molly Shaw joined Mays in the top 100 with a time of 21:45.2 for 86th, while Emily Bain, Lilly Shaw and Lily Wickmark rounded out the scorers.

Meredith Lendt’s 20:06.2 for 32nd paced Fredonia for a 22nd-place finish. The ‘Billies added to their score with Isabella Czekanski running 20:39.9 for 48th, then Emily McCann, Rosemary Gugino and Mikaylee Baliya finishing the team’s top five.

Salamanca did not have enough runners to finish as a team, however Ryanna Brady was among the best runners with a time of 19:28.0 for 16th.

DIVISION AA

Pittsford Sutherland also won Division AA for the girls with a score of 76 and Kiera Macintosh of Scotia-Glenville took the top time of 18:22.8.

Randolph did not qualify a score as a team, but Gracyn Rowland broke into the top 50 with a time of 20:33.6 for 37th place.

DIVISION AAA

Frontier’s Lillie Bogdan smoked the competition in the large schools AAA Division, outpacing second by nearly two minutes with a pace of 17:15.4 ahead of her teammate Payton Fisher in 18:57.0.

Taking the top two spots was not enough for Frontier to take the team title as West Genesee had the low score of 69.

Jamestown finished 9th as a team and scored 216 points, being led by London Hamilton with a 12th-place time of 19:58.4. Adding to the points total are Nora Bailey in 55th at 21:44.0, Kater Hockenberry in 57th at 21:52.7, Julia Stormont in 58th at 21:53.3 and Nolah Hamilton in 73rd at 22.37.0. The Red & Green also had Gabby Knight reach the top 100 at 77th with a time of 23:02.8.
