Saeger, Brightman Claim Gold Medals At Regionals
SANBORN — A pair of Jamestown High School unified athletes claimed gold medals in basketball at the Special Olympics Regionals last week at Niagara University.
Representing the Chautauqua Lakers, junior Charleigh Saeger and sophomore Brendan Brightman, friends since second grade, competed against teams from across the state and Canada. Saeger placed first in her division for skills to earn her gold, while Brightman and his team placed first and captured gold after posting 35-31 and 33-16 victories.
All told, the Lakers took home seven gold medals and one bronze.
Saeger and Brightman also compete in bowling for the first time this year, another sport that is part of the Red & Green’s unified program, which is under the direction of Ben and Karen Drake.
