Southwestern Boys, Girls Come Up Just Short At Dunkirk Invitational

DUNKIRK — Hamburg beat Southwestern by one point for the boys title, while East Aurora ran away with the girls title at the Dunkirk Invitational on Friday evening.

East Aurora won the girls 3,200-meter relay, while the Blue Devils’ Emilia O’Leary took the 1,500 meters and teammate Reiley Pierce claimed the 800 meters as their team took first place with 129 points.

Hamburg’s boys won with 77 points, thanks to Dylan Hart’s victory in the triple jump.

Southwestern’s girls were second with 104 points. Alexis Grijalva captured the 400 meters, while teaming with Marlana Cresanti, Avery Johnson and Tryniti Card to take the 1,600-meter relay. The Trojans’ Faith Hamilton also won the shot put.

Southwestern’s boys were second with 76 points, paced by Declan Kennedy’s victory in the 110-meter hurdles.

Randolph’s boys were fourth with 63.5 points as Talon Rowland was victorious in the 100 meters and 400 meters, and Roan Kelly took the 1,600 meters.

Frewsburg’s boys were seventh with 52 points after the Bears’ Cody Kent won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Landon Stormer took first in the 200 meters.

Dunkirk’s Felicity Cooper won the girls pole vault as the Marauders finished 14th with 14 points.

Dunkirk’s Michael Hanlon won the boys 400-meter hurdles as the Marauders tied for eighth with 49 points. Hanlon also teamed with Nathan Carlson, Johnee Thomas and Lucas Lawire to win the 1,600-meter relay.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley’s Roger Markham was the only other local individual winner as he took first in the long jump at a distance of 21 feet, 1.5 inches. The Golden Cougars took 10th with 30 points.
