Jamestown Wins For Sixth Time In Last Seven Games
Noah Rivera recorded a hat trick and Noah Burch collected a goal and added two assists to send Jamestown to a 5-1 victory over Dunkirk in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association West Division boys soccer game Tuesday evening at Strider Field.
The Red Raiders (8-6, 6-3) led 2-0 at halftime on their way to their sixth win in the last seven games.
Luca Delpozzo also found the back of the net for Jamestown on Senior Recognition Night and Angelo Restivo chipped in an assist in support of goalie Noah Vrist, who was credited with three saves.
“(Rivera) has been solid for us all year,” Red Raiders coach Bonnie Schnars said. “He’s our leading scorer and the boys have gotten really good at distributing the ball to him. We rely a lot on him, obviously, and he’s been really strong all year.”
Schnars also credited the play of Jamestown’s defense, including Tyler Maloney, Jarren Cotter, Brighton Lumia and Logan McIntosh.
“They are finally getting it,” she said. “It’s really awesome to see it take place, especially this time of year.”
Jamestown returns to action Thursday when it travels to Allegany-Limestone. The Red Raiders then pay a trip to Frontier on Saturday for a nonleague game.
“It’s really fun,” Schnars said. “They’ve put in a lot of work. It’s nice to see it come together.”
Dunkirk falls to 5-9 overall and 0-8 in the division.
CARDS CLOSE IN ON TITLE
PORTVILLE — Randolph clinched at least a share of the East Division title with a 2-0 shutout of Portville.
Drew Hind scored from Cooper Freeman in the 14th minute and Griffin Nelson added a goal from Freeman in the 52nd minute for the Cardinals (14-1-0, 8-1-0).
Delsin Tallchief made two saves in net for Randolph’s fourth clean sheet of the season.
The Panthers fell to 7-8-0 overall and 4-5-0 in the league.
The Cardinals can clinch the outright title Thursday with a win or tie at home against Pine Valley/Gowanda or an Ellicottville loss or tie at home against Cassadaga Valley/Falconer.
GATORS BLANK FREDONIA
FREDONIA — Jesse Decker scored in the 19th minute off an assist from Cooper Wilczewski to lead Allegany-Limestone past Fredonia 1-0 in West Division play at SUNY Fredonia.
The Hillbillies drop to 4-8-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the league while the Gators improve to 8-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the league.
GATTOS, SWANSON SHINE
SILVER CREEK — Anthony Gatto, Aiden Gatto and Carson Swanson each scored twice to power Westfield/Brocton to an 8-0 shutout of Silver Creek in the Central Division.
Mihir Patel and Aiden Covert each added a goal for the Wolverines (11-4-0, 7-2-0). Patel and Swanson each had two assists while Cameron Paternosh, Mason Baum, Tristen Phillips and Austin McIntyre each had one assist.
The Black Knights fell to 2-12-1 overall and 0-8-1 in the league.
KATILUS HAS HAT TRICK
FALCONER — Cameron Katilus netted a hat trick for Cassadaga Valley/Falconer in a 7-0 East Division shutout of Salamanca/Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Ethyn Gilbert had two goals and two assists; Nick Thielke and Myles Pickup each had a goal; and Clayton Evans, Austin Main and Finley Pavlock each had an assist for the Golden Cougars (9-5-0, 6-3-0).
The Warwolves fell to 1-14-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the league.
WARSAW POWERS EAGLES
FREWSBURG — Matt Warsaw scored all three of North Collins’ goals from Derek Ebersole in a 3-0 shutout of Frewsburg in the Central Division.
Warsaw and Ebersole connected in the third, 25th and 37th minutes for the Eagles (7-6-1, 4-4-1).
The Bears fell to 7-6-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the league.
ELLICOTTVILLE ROLLS
SOUTH DAYTON — Owen Doherty had three goals and an assist to lead Ellicottville to an 11-0 East Division shutout of Pine Valley/Gowanda.
Maddox Johnson had two goals; Aaron LoGuidice, Tosh Klein and Kyle Robinson each had a goal and an assist; Coleman Carlson, Jackson Kruszynski and Toby Coburn each had a goal; and EJ Doherty and Cameron Mendell each had an assist for the Eagles (11-3-0, 7-2-0).
The Panthers fell to 1-14-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the league.
TROJANS COAST IN OLEAN
OLEAN — Connor Young and Joaquin Caparroz each scored twice for Southwestern in a 6-1 West Division victory over Olean.
Young scored from Seth Vaughn in the 13th minute and from Nolan Lefler in the 20th minute before Caparroz scored the Trojans’ third goal just before halftime.
After the break, Lefler, Vaughn and Caparroz each scored a goal while Cole Johnson added an assist for Southwestern (13-1-0, 9-0-0).
The Huskies fell to 4-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the league.
