BUFFALO — Jack Carlson had himself quite a night at Charles Dingboom Field on Thursday evening.
On both sides of the ball.
The senior quarterback/defensive back completed 9 of 16 passes for 216 yards and four touchdowns; rushed for 47 yards on six carries; intercepted three passes; and was in on six tackles to lead Jamestown to a resounding 50-14 victory over Hutch Tech in a Class AA football game at Riverside High School.
The win raised the Red Raiders’ record to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the division, heading into next week’s homecoming showdown against Lancaster (4-0, 4-0).
“It’s the Double-A grind,” Jamestown coach Tom Langworthy said. “Jamestown and Lancaster are storied programs and we both want the same thing. There’s a lot of respect there. It’s definitely going to be a great battle.”

Last night’s game was anything but.
Cole Bloomquist returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown, the Red Raiders led 7-0 and the rout was on.
“I told Cole that I thought he was going to score this week, but when he did I said that I didn’t know it was going to be 11 seconds into the game,” Langworthy said. ” … We really dominated the game from beginning to end. … It’s always good to go on the road and get a win, make it a business trip and we came out here and took care of business.”
They did so emphatically.
In addition to Carlson’s head-turning performance — his touchdown passes went for 25 and 54 yards to Carson Panebianco, 40 yards to Xavier Foust and 47 yards to Aiden Senear — and Bloomquist’s kickoff return, Carsen Bane and Panebianco added scoring runs of 7 and 2 yards, respectively. Ella Propheter was successful on all six of her point-after tries and Bane converted a 2-point conversion run.

By halftime, Jamestown led 50-8 and was well on its way to its fifth straight resounding win of the month.
“One of the things I”ll take away from this game is that we’re starting to figure out how to do in in different ways,” Langworthy said. “The foundation is still the run game, but we threw the ball all over the place, Jack looked good, and is looking more comfortable in the pocket every week, the receivers are getting open and the line continues to block well, so I thought tonight was a good night.”
October is coming, though, as the Red Raiders, ranked 23rd in this week’s New York State Sportswriters Association poll, finish their regular season with back-to-back home games against 20th-ranked Lancaster next week and No. 7 Bennett on Oct 13. They play at Orchard Park on Oct. 20.
NOTES: Panebianco caught four passes for 94 yards, and Foust had four receptions for 68 yards. … Bane rushed for 87 yards on 13 carries. … Jamestown’s defense was stout again, led by 12 tackles from Bane (three for loss) and Tommy Pratton (three for loss), 11 from Bloomquist (three for loss) and nine from Terrell Reese (three for loss and two sacks). … Hutch Tech’s touchdowns included a 3-yard pass from Carnell Young to Romeo Kidd in the second quarter and a 1-yard Kidd run in the final period. … The Engineers are 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the division.
