First-Team Performers
Swanson, Hind, Conley Among 22 Honored
SYRACUSE –Three boys basketball players from the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association have earned First-Team All-State recognition in an announcement Wednesday by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
They are sophomore Carson Swanson of Westfield, and sophomore Drew Hind and senior Carson Conley, both of New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C champion Randolph.
Swanson, the CCAA Division 2 West Player of the Year, averaged 27.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.1 steals and 4.1 assists per game for the Wolverines, who went 14-8 and advanced to the Section VI Class D quarterfinals.
Hind, the CCAA Division 1 East Player of the Year, averaged 18.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 3.7 steals per game for the Cardinals, who finished 22-4 on their way to their first state title in program history.
Conley, a CCAA Division 1 East First-Team All-Star, averaged 18.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.0 steal and 1.1 assists per game.
Salamanca’s Lucus Brown was selected to the Class B Second Team after a season in which he averaged 20.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.0 assists, and was named the CCAA Division 1 West Player of the Year. The Warriors finished 20-3 and advanced to the Section VI Class B2 championship game.
Following are the remaining CCAA Class B, Class C and Class D All-State selections (Class AA and Class A will be announced next Wednesday):
In Class B, Southwestern senior Matt Pannes, fifth team; Fredonia senior Ethan Fry, eighth team; Salamanca senior Andy Herrick, 17th team; and Fredonia junior Davion White, honorable mention.
In Class C, Randolph senior Jaiden Huntington, fourth team; Silver Creek junior Ray Cortes, fifth team; Chautauqua Lake senior Lawson Ormsby, seventh team; Frewsburg junior Gavin Smith, ninth team; and Frewsburg seniors Zack Carr and Connor Murray, both honorable mention.
In Class D, junior Derek Ebersole of North Collins, fourth team; Clymer senior Blake Kopta, fifth team; Clymer senior Austin White, sixth team; Panama sophomore Carter Brink, eighth team; and Sherman senior Brayden Hayes, Panama sophomore Bryce Hinsdale, North Collins senior Matt Sweet and Forestville senior Brayden Smith, all honorable mention.
The Players of the Year were Phillip Lawrence of Poly-Prep in Class B; J.C. Walker of Lyons in Class C; and Sawyer Devoe and Macoy Putnam, both of Avoca/Prattsburgh, who shared the honor in Class D.
