MAYVILLE — When Chautauqua Lake beat the Westfield 1-0 last week, runs were hard to come by.

That was very much the same on Thursday, but it was the Wolverines who came out on top 1-0 to tie for first place in Division 2 West of the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association.

Haleigh Dellow outdueled Olivia Herrington. Dellow was nearly flawless, throwing eight innings, giving up one hit, striking out 18 and walking just two batters.

Herrington was just as good, giving up just one run in eight innings of work, allowing two hits after being perfect the first seven innings and she matched Dellow with 18 strikeouts.

Westfield finally solved Herrington in the top of the eighth with a Madyson Burgess double. Westfield capitalized on the double a few batters later when Casey Black was able to get the Wolverines’ second hit of the game and it drove in the only run.

With the lead, Dellow continued her dominance in the circle, setting down the Thunderbirds 1-2-3 with two strikeouts. Chautauqua Lake’s only hit came from Jillian Miller in the seventh inning.

PORTVILLE WINS BIG

CATTARAUGUS — Mallory Welty and Alisha Dickerson combined on a three-hitter to spark Portville to an 11-0 victory over Cattaraugus-Little Valley in a Division 2 East game.

Mattison Foster (double), Mallory Welty (triple, two RBIs) and Mia Welty (three RBIs) had two hits apiece for the Panthers (14-1, 10-0).

Alex Minnekine had two hits for the Timberwolves (2-9, 2-9).

Starting at $2.99/week.
