William E. Mulson
William E. Mulson, 98, of Ripley, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2025, at the Erie VA Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 28, 1926, in Covington Township, Clearfield, Pa., the son of the late William and Vista L. (Fenstermaker) Mulson. He attended Ripley Center School up to the eighth grade, receiving his high school diploma June 23, 2001. Bill entered the U.S. Navy on Feb. 22, 1944, and held the highest rank of Seaman First Class. He served on the USS Maddox and was issued the World War II Victory Medal on June 30, 1948, along with the Pacific Theater Ribbon (four stars), Philippine Liberation Ribbon (one star) and the American Theater Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1946.
Bill worked and retired as a track foreman on the Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was a Master Mason for 64 years being raised in Summit Lodge 219 in 1960 and affiliated with Olive Lodge 575 in 2009. He received a Dedicated Service Award in May 2018. He was also a 32nd degree Mason with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Jamestown, joining from April 1977 through October 1997. Bill was also a life member of the VFW Post 2769.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, spending time outside enjoying the fresh air and in his younger days, taking his wife to barn dances. He always had a story to tell regardless of the topic. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife Wilma Nina (Eccles Newton) Mulson, whom he married March 27, 1948, and passed April 26, 2011, sisters Helen Teft, Gladys Lathrop, and Doris Van Volkenburg; and brothers Donald Mulson, Richard “Dick” Mulson and Gary Mulson.
Bill is survived by his daughters Bonnie (Arty) Wright, Barbara (John) Hamels, Danny Mulson and Douglas (Caroline) Mulson; 11 grandchildren; 28 great -grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild and many nieces , and nephews.
Friends may call at the Mason Funeral home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield, N.Y., on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service in the evening. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, N.Y., with full military honors.
