Marion Barbara West Wade “Aunt Petey,” 99, of Randolph, NY passed away, Saturday, April 19. 2025 at WCA Hospital in Jamestown. She was born Dec. 21, 1925 in Womens Christian Association Hospital in Jamestown, daughter of the late Frethoff “Fritz” Englebreck West and Vera Goranson West.
Marion and Robert S. Wade were married in Grace Episcopal Church in Randolph, on Aug. 26, 1950. They celebrated their 70th anniversary before Robert passed away on Dec. 24, 2020.
She graduated from Randolph Central School, class of 1943. Marion, Reah Wilcox, and Helen Gilbert celebrated their 70th reunion together.
She was a licensed practical nurse at Jamestown General Hospital. Marion was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and the Episcopal Church Women, American Legion Auxiliary Post 181, and trustee of the Randolph Historical Society.
She was proud of her Swedish heritage and visited family sights when she went to Sweden in 1999. She attended JCC for Scandinavian studies for many years. She enjoyed oil painting with friends, and along with others, Marion made it possible to place a sign at the fish hatchery depicting the discovery of the remnants of the Columbian Mammoth in 1934. She was also an advocate to have the mammoth replica placed permanently in Randolph.
She was “Aunt Petey” (given to her by her brother) to all her nieces, nephews, and to many dear ones not even related.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her brother, Burton West, and two sisters, Virginia Comstock and Betty Lorden.
She is survived by three wonderful sons, William Lous (Deborah) of Durham, NC, Rodney John (Catherine) of Salem, SC, and Kevin (Robert) Kristie of East Chatham, NY. Also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew, Marshall (Kellie), Robert “Austen,” Rachael, and William; and three greatgrandchildren, Jamie, Emett, and Vera, whom was named after her great-great-grandmother from Sweden.
Interment will be held at a later date at the Randolph Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
