John Michael Harrington

John Michael Harrington
John Michael Harrington, beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, music, and cherished memories.
Born on Dec. 3, 1973, in Dunkirk, New York, Mike was the pride and joy of his parents, Kathy and Roger Harrington. From an early age, he was known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and boundless curiosity–qualities that stayed with him throughout his life.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Harrington; his father, Roger Harrington; his older brother, Tim Harrington of Texas; and his daughter, Amber Harrington. He is survived by his three living children: his daughter, Whitney Harrington; his daughter Haley Harrington; and his son Braxton Young of Texas; and his beloved grandchildren.
Family was everything to Mike. He is remembered with love by his three sisters, Marsha Harrington, Janine Harrington, and Cheryl Bentley (Harrington); and his two brothers, Paul and Kenny Harrington.
Mike had a deep passion for helping others. In 2008, he proudly served as an EMT with the Wellsville Ambulance and Fire Department–one of the happiest and most meaningful achievements of his life.
An ardent outdoorsman, Mike found peace casting a line on a quiet lake or racing across dirt trails on his bike. He was happiest with a karaoke mic in his hand; his love of music and laughter was contagious, and he never missed an opportunity to break into song. If you walked by one of his campfires on a summer evening, you’d hear his rich, beautiful voice inviting you to join in, his eyes sparkling under the night sky.
Mike’s favorite colors–blue, white, and green–were splashed throughout his life. To know Mike was to know the comforting aroma of charcoal and the sound of his joyful whoops as he coaxed the coals to the perfect temperature.
Though our hearts are heavy, we take solace in the wonderful life he lived and the many ways he touched ours.
Mike’s viewing will be held at Peterson Funeral Home in Frewsburg, NY, on April 26, 2025, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. A celebration of Mike’s life will follow immediately after the service, where family and friends are invited to share stories, sing his favorite songs, and honor his spirit with blue, white, or green. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to https://help.groverecoverycenter.com, in memory of a man who gave so freely to everyone he met.
May we all carry forward Mike’s kindness, zest for life, and loving laughter. Though he’s no longer with us in body, his song will play on in every ripple of the water, every campfire glow, and every note sung into a microphone. Rest easy, Mike–you are forever in our hearts.
