Betty W. Abbott

Betty W. Abbott, 90, of Gerry, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 in Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing facility.

She was born May 30, 1934 in Titusville, PA, a daughter of Orrie and Josephine (Wright) Williams.

Betty graduated from East Hickory Public School where she was a cheerleader, drum majorette and senior class secretary.

Betty was a homemaker for many years, dedicated to loving and raising her five children. As her family grew up, Betty became employed by the JCPenney store as a clerk and department manager, for 14 years before retiring.

Bowling, square dancing and camping were a few of Betty’s favorite activities that she shared with friends and family in her younger years. She also was very active with her daughters and the Girls Scouts of America, where she served as a Brownie troop leader, and attended many camping trips with her girls troops. After retiring, Betty and her husband traveled throughout the United States before settling into Florida as their winter home, and Hidden Valley Campground in Kiantone, New York, as their summer residence. This is where Betty spent countless hours entertaining, playing with, and loving her 11 grandchildren. She also attended Kiantone Congregational Church during these years.

Betty is survived by her husband of almost 72 years, Walter E. Abbott, whom she married April 18,1953. Also surviving are three daughters, Janis (Steven) Phillips, Joyce (Ron) Rothleder, and Jayne (Jeff Bauer) Abbott; 11 grandchildren, Garrett (Abbey) Phillips, Elise (Kahl) Counts, Clayton (Nicolette) Phillips and Courtney (Cody) Mason, Taylor and Bailey Abbott, Mallory (Brock) McCandless, Rebecca (Jordan) Young and Madison (fiance Adam Goot) Rothleder, and Alyssa and Kimberly Abbott. Along with ten great grandchildren; Kaylee Rein, Piper and Sadie Phillips, Arturo Counts, Fern and Faelyn Phillips, Adeline, Eliza and Isla Mason, and Maren McCandless. Many, many nieces and nephews also survive their Aunt, and great Aunt Betty.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons; Dennis E. Abbott and W. Dean Abbott; four brothers, Francis “Bub” Williams, Maynard “Punk” Williams, and twins Delbert, and Gilbert Williams, along with a sister, Joye.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and will be announced by the Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
