Betty J. Chapman, 88, of Mayville, NY passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, in Arizona. She was born on July 24, 1936, in Mayville, NY, the daughter of the late Harold G. and Edith Davis Hoyt.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Chapman whom she married on Oct. 11, 1952, in Ripley, NY; 4 Siblings, May Nelson, Helen Ploss, Harold “Sonny” Hoyt and Stewart Hoyt. A Son in Law, Charles Smith, and a daughter in Law, Judy Harwell. A great-grandson Gunner Chapman.
She is survived by 2 children, Diane Smith of Mayville, NY and David (Nora) Chapman of AZ., 8 grandchildren, Rhonda (Jim) Kester, Betsy and Jennifer Smith, Stephen, Jody, George, Heather and David Chapman. 12 Great Grandchildren, Alyssa, Dexter, Samantha, Alicia, Anfernee, Haley, Angel, Michael, Daniel, Jaylynn, Tyson, George and Adler. 4 Great Great Grandchildren, Madison, Carter, Keira and Gunner.
Betty attended Chautauqua Central School and was a member of Hurlbut Community Church in Chautauqua.
She worked for many years for families and businesses in Chautauqua Institution and surrounding areas.
Betty was involved in her husband’s many hobbies including traveling, rockhounding and helping the Sea Lion cannon crew. She enjoyed hosting family get-togethers and caring for others.
