Peter C. Flagg

Peter C. Flagg
DEWITTVILLE – Peter C. Flagg, 85, of Dewittville, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He was born June 7, 1939, in Jamestown, NY, the son of the late Charles and Mildred Wheeler Flagg.
He was a 1957 graduate of Chautauqua Central School. He first attended Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, and later transferred to the State University of New York College at New Paltz where he earned his Bachelor of Arts. During his high school and college years Peter helped his parents on “Flagg Farm” on West Lake Road near Chautauqua Institution. He later worked for many years at the Chautauqua Utility District, the water utility company at the Chautauqua Institution, retiring only recently.
Peter had a long-standing interest in photography and history. He belonged to the Chautauqua Township Historical Society and was active in supporting the Mayville Depot Museum located in the historic Pennsylvania Railroad Depot on the Lake Chautauqua shoreline in Mayville NY.
He combined his interest in history and photography by photographing local historic locations and collecting historic photographs. He published these in two books on Chautauqua history, titled “Town of Chautauqua: Journey Through Time” and “Chautauqua Remembered, Then and Now”. In these books he printed photographs of historic buildings and locations next to contemporary views of the same site, demonstrating changes made over time.
He enjoyed travel, visited friends in Japan and France, and visited often with his sister Pat in New Jersey. He took one particularly memorable trip across the western United States, traveling with a good friend by scenic train.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia Morris of Hillsborough, NJ, and a niece, Sarah Hernandez of North Brunswick, NJ.
A celebration of life may be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations can be made to Feeding America, the Chicago based national charity working to end hunger in the United States.
