Nancy E. Hitchcock, 85, of Falconer passed away Friday (March 14, 2025) in UPMC Hamot.
A lifelong area resident she was born December 21, 1939 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Harold N. and Bernice Beebe Johnson.
Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Jamestown High School and prior to retirement was employed by Advantage Sales & Marketing as a Merchandiser.
She was a volunteer with AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP for 20+ years making hats and mittens for area children in need. A volunteer for Lutheran Retirement Nursing Home crocheting several hundred butterflies and lilies. Nancy was a member of a neighborhood Coffee Club that met for over 50 years. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting and a variety of other crafts. As well as going to several area craft shows. Nancy made many intricate crocheted doilies to share with friends and family. She was very talented and always ready to take on any sewing project.
Nancy enjoyed baking and cooking. Her meticulous attention to detail showed in the most amazing decorated Christmas and Holiday cookies. She looked forward to planning and cooking for her annual Halloween party, a different menu each year, with family and friends. Nancy had a passion for learning and playing several board games and card games with friends and family. It brought her great joy.
She spent many relaxing hours on her front porch, reading and watching the hummingbirds come and go. Over the years, Nancy shared the many memories of how she enjoyed the time she spent camping with her family and friends at Penn Highlands Campground in Lander PA.
Even though Nancy’s own health at times would keep her down, as soon as she was able, she was ready to get back to visiting with her friends in their homes or at area Nursing Homes, sharing in conversation and a card game or puzzle. For friends that needed to get to the grocery store, she was always willing to take them along while she shopped.
Surviving is her son John A. Hitchcock (Karen Johnson) of Falconer, step-daughters: Dorene Friend of Marquette, Michigan, Donna Kay Saari of Pahrump, Nevada; nieces Sandy Milner Muntz, Cindy Johnson McBrayer, Trina Bouge, and nephews Tim Milner, Jeff Milner, Rich Johnson and Ryan Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur T. Hitchcock whom she married October 5, 1963 in Jamestown NY and who died November 15, 1992; her sister: Clarice Milner; three brothers: Charles, Gordon and David Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
