Marie Westerlund

Marie Westerlund
Marie Westerlund, 94, of Jamestown, passed away at home surrounded by her family on March 3, 2025. She was born in Corry, PA on January 4, 1931, to the late Guy E. and Blanche Allen Parker.
An extremely tough lady, Marie had a heart of gold yet always stood her ground. She lived to work hard, always keeping herself busy and contributing to the greater good. After attending Jamestown High School, Marie held many jobs, including being a machinist at Bush Industries for 10 years, waitressing for 35 years, and, proudly, working in the deli at Wegmans Food Markets for 7 years.
Undoubtedly, Marie’s dedication to work never left her spirit. Even in later years battling Alzheimer’s, Marie could be found folding tissues and stuffing envelopes. These tasks were odes to her desire to stay occupied in heart and mind.
A consistent jokester, Marie loved going out to eat and sneaking out with her granddaughter to attend many a bingo night together. Family gatherings meant the world to her. She held closely to the bonds with her family; so too, Marie’s stuffed duck, Quackers, became a steady friend without any wavering judgment.
Reading held Marie’s attention for hours at a time. Her enthrallment with literature allowed her to experience stories when daily living became a bit confusing.
Marie’s huge heart will be missed by her daughters, Rita Ann Sullivan and Candy Sue Westerlund, both of Jamestown; her son, Donald R. (Donna) Westerlund of Warren, PA; her grandchildren, Linda (Don) Erwin of Frewsburg, Davy Jo Johnson of Warren, Andrea F. Westerlund of Rochester, and John Paul Westerlund of Rochester; her great-grandchildren, Camden Armella of Frewsburg, Colton Armella of Jamestown, Aaron Sullivan of Kentucky, Katelynn (David) Chestnut of Brockway, PA, Michael Johnson of Warren, Brianna (Gabe) Hinton of Warren, Jeremiah Johnson of Spartansburg, PA, and Joshua Johnson of Warren; her great-grandchildren, Ryan, Miah, and Matthew Chestnut and Eli and Ivy Johnson; and her sister, Patty Bennett of Jamestown.
Besides her parents, Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Westerlund, whom she married January 8, 1949, and who passed away May 5, 2003; her grandson, Richard H. “Richy” Westerlund; her sisters, Grace Parker, Betty Matthews, Hazel Parker, Jean Vitello, and Gertrude Field; her son-in-law, Russell Sullivan; and her daughter-in-law, Sandy Westerlund.
The funeral service for Marie will be at 10:00am Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. Dan Prewitt of First Baptist Church of Mayville will lead the service. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 4-7pm Friday, March 7, 2025 at Lind’s. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Flowers are welcomed. Memorials may also be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood, NY 14750.
